So, my mom's dog Samson has a crack on the big pad. He is constantly licking his paw. I think he actually has a crack on his other front paw too... So... I need to know how to make it better. And how to prevent it. Thanks in advance. I'll try to add a pic later.

Bag Balm could work pretty well if it's due to harsh walking conditions, it's in a square green tin at the drugstore, it's a medicated vaseline originally used for cow's udders that were chafed or cracked, but I use it on my lips all the time haha. If there's not a whole lot of walking around in cold weather it could be medical... probably should see a vet.
I agree with the bag balm, but then you have to keep him from licking it... so either I've gone and gotten a baby sock and taped it on Ginny's paw, or had to use the 'cone of shame.'  Once it is healed, there's a product called Musher's Secret that is a wax you can put on their pads to protect from moisture, cold, salt, ice, etc.  We've used it when we get a big snow storm.  http://www.musherssecret.net/
