Just a dog is like saying just a kid or just a mom.Dogs are family members who are charming and loved and give so much more than they ask for. I am so thankful that I have a wonderful dog in my life who is my companion through thick and thin. When I am upset or sad Daisy is the first one on the scene cuddling me and trying to lick my tears away....I cannot stand this attitude and am sad to say my own son has it toward his own family pet who lives in the garage and gets very little love.
WHy have a dog?

I AGREE, THEY ARE NEVER "JUST DOGS" !!!!!! IT ANGERS ME WHEN PEOPLE HAVE THAT ATTITUDE TOWARDS DOGS. TAKE MY NEIGHBOR FOR EXAMPLE.. SHE HAS TWO DOGS. ONE IS A BORDER COLLIE/MCNABB AND THE OTHER IS A SMALL MIXED BREED. SHE'S NOT VERY FOND OF EITHER ONE OF THEM. THEY WERE HER HUSBANDS DOGS AND THEY'VE BEEN SEPERATED FOR AWHILE. ANYWAY, THE BORDER COLLIE/MCNABB IS GETTING OLD. SHE MADE A COMMENT TO ME THE OTHER DAY," WHY CAN'T MY TWO DOGS DIE TOGHETHER BECAUSE I'M GETTING TIRED OF THEM". NEEDLESS TO SAY, I WAS INSTANTLY MAD AND PROCEEDED TO STICK BOTH FEET IN MY MOUTH. I WON'T TELL YOU EXACTLY WHAT I SAID, LET ME JUST SAY THAT I SOUNDED LIKE A SAILOR THAT HAD BEEN OUT TO SEA TOO LONG. I'VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT APOLOGIZING, BUT EVERY TIME I THINK ABOUT WHAT SHE SAYS, THAT THOUGHT FLIES RIGHT OUT THE WINDOW. MAYBE I SHOULD ASK MYSELF WHAT MY DOGS WOULD DO??????

I think the phase "just a dog" is painful and condescending. Something only a person with a limited capacity for love would say. When Basil died I heard that all too often. When I testified at the hearing to enact Basil's law it was repeated over and over. When Fern had her very expensive surgery at Iowa State..."why would I spend so much...after all it's just a dog." I feel privilidged to have known "just a dog". I understand sorrow and true love because of "just a dog" I feel sadness for those that don't understand.

I was told just that by my local police force! After all it is just a dog that they stole from you. Won't go on any longer on that but the story is so true. Mine are as much my family as if I had given birth to them! Hate the negativity I get from people about it just being a dog. 12/13/06 at 2:35 pm my Bear was stole. I even saw a truck and horse trailer leave my drive but then my boy was gone. Still after posting a sign for over a year I finally again saw the truck and trailer again! Same day of the week. Same time of day. Police told me as they shoved my flyer under the counter! Well you know it is after all just a dog!
They stole my best friend, that is just a dog!
Bring Bear home! I know he is out there some place. Growing old, but Bear was my dog for 6 years! I whelped him and after all he was just my dog.

love the poem/story

Wow sad story about titus :(... My mom has been threw something simular with her Danes.
She has had the pleasure of being owned by 3. Her first one had very extensive medical problems and went threw 3 very expensive surj. eventually at the young age of 6 he past the bridge..... She rescued another and had very simular problems as he aged, i think he was 5 or 7 when he passed. Now she has her third and he is so far healthy, but she would not blink for one second if he needed medical attention!
The "just a dog" becomes such a impacting part of our life as they grow into the most amazing family members. I believe any human lucky enough to be owned by their dogs, owes it to them to spend the exra money to insure there well being!!!!!
