Zed was adopted from a local animal shelter. Apparently he was picked up as a stray and had been ad the shelter for over a month when my wife found him online. 3 days later we went to look at him and he immediately stayed close to my wife...we took him home that day. He's been a great dog.

I adopted Toby from a rescue organization in Sulphur, Louisiana. (4 paws society) The owner apparently loves corgi and will find them across Louisiana and rescue them. I'm so greatful she rescued Toby. I was told he came from an animal shelter around the Baton Rouge area and didn't have much time left. He's a great dog and I wonder why anyone would want to get rid of him.

We got Mikey from Meadow Lake Humane Society in Saskatchewan, Canada (we live one province over, in Alberta). We needed to find a smaller type dog as the neighborhood we were moving into only allowed maximum height 18" at the shoulder.
We found him on Petfinder.com and immediately filled out the application for him-we were able to see four pictures of him and three videos-and immediately fell in love.

They boarded him for a month for us, as were moving and couldn't come get him right away. Most shelters won't even hold a dog for a day for you-we were very impressed!

Mikey (formerly Petey) was born in their shelter with Parvo. The vet took him home to nurse him back to health and he lived most of his two years in the shelter, being adopted and returned 3-4 times (we weren't clear on if it was three or four times). He was returned for wandering (in an unfenced yard), chasing deer (in an unfenced yard) and getting attacked by the home's other dog. (He was afraid of dog's larger then him but we've been doing playdates, and now at the dog park he'll play with anyone!).

He's an absolute doll (yes, he chews things up, but we need to be cleaner!!!), loves kids (I mean LOVES kids), plays well with all the dogs he meets (leaves them if they are aggressive or mean), plays off leash, and is at the top of his obediance class already. We are hoping to do some agility and other similar activities with him to keep him busy and happy.

I got my first one from a breeder that couldnt bring herself to kill her (she was the runt of that litter). So my mom and I drove the 300 miles to go get her and we have NEVER questioned that desicion... Our other one was a rescue from a Houston Shelter - the story is I was trying to talk my Dad into letting me have one more corgi. I had seen this documenary on the Royal Family in England and the Queen is a Corgi fancier and has like 16 of them, so I said "If the Queen of England can have 16 corgis so can I!" (i was just kidding of course)...He said if I can find one to rescue I can have as many as I want (within reason of course :p)... so the next day my mom was on the internet looking something up for our farm and the search engine she was using took her to a totally different site but routed her to the Harris County Shelter website.... and thats how we found Stella (our little Pound Puppy)... she had literally been on the website for less than an hour and that weekend when I came home from college mom surprised me with the money and directions to go rescue her. When we first got her she was very timid, shy, didnt like anything above her head (she was picked up as a stray, but we think she was a puppy mill escapee - just by the way she acted and she was very pigeon toed like she was in tiny cage all her life) but shes all better now, just a normal part of the family!

Needless to say my Dad was NOT expecting me to take such a literal translation of what he said. Lol. So that Thanksgiving when he came home from off shore we surprised him with a big red bow on a little doggie...

We have never regretted those desicions. You know life is too short to regret something like that, you give a dog a second chance at life and in return we have a beautiful little pack growing and cheap blood pressure machines! I am a full advocate for the rescue of any animal! And DOWN WITH PUPPY MILLS!!!
