Sorry, I never tried lifting him in the cart. It was pretty easy to get him in and out of the cart. You might be able to though. It's not heavy but it might be awkward and clumsy.

Thanks Gail! I wanted to msg you privately, and I didn't want to bring up any painful memories, but it sounded like you had some real experience with this. It's really rather difficult to find experiential resources out there. For all that corgis are susceptible to this problem, there are a lot more doxie owners who talk about it. And doxies are a different thing being so much smaller and all. The worst thing for us (besides worrying about him and the obvious) is the wheelbarrowing and what it does to our backs. We were also hoping the wheelchair would help us with that while making him more mobile. Can you lift the dog in it say, down a couple of steps?

Shannon...the wheels we used for Cobi were from eddieswheels and before we ordered we had to measure him as directed on their website so it is custom fit to your dog. It is also very lightweight. The first time we put Cobi in it we made sure to have treats ready and his favorite thing to do which was playing fetch and he took right to it. He hadn't had surgery though.

We're looking into getting Aber a wheelchair now. Our surgeon never bothered to mention it would be quite good for his recovery and thus I always thought it was the last resort when the dog could no longer walk. I did a lot of research last night and it seems like a great thing for him either way--it will help stabilize his spine and body while he regains use of his legs and, if he never does, it will give him permanent mobility.

We are thinking of using eddieswheels but were wondering if anyone had experiences they could share and any advice for what to look for in making such an investment. I want him to be comfortable and secure in it, and I also need something that I can lift.

New here. My corgi doesn't have wheels and we're hoping he can walk again, but he had back surgery 11/09 and he's still not able to walk. Hoping to get some tips, moral support, and the like from other people with special needs corgis. It's so hard to find things to help him since they just aren't built like other dogs. We tried the Bottoms Up harness--his little legs just stuck straight out!

Sorry, I should have updated this page....sadly Cobi went to doggie heaven on March 17th 2009. He is now pain free and happily chasing tennis balls without the use of wheels. gail

Cobi's wheels came from eddieswheels.com. Other sources are: doggon.com, handicappedpets.com & k9-carts.com. Good luck to you.

Can you point me in the right direction for these type of wheeled devices? For the last several weeks Molly hasn't been walking on hind legs and it appears she has been showing signs of Hip Dysplasia for awhile but I was unaware. Her spirits are high, but she cant get around...any advice?
