Doug & Sarah, I also live in Indiana and have had Corgis for over 13 years. They love the cold, being from Wales you know that their ancestors have and still do endure some pretty cold, wet weather. Hence, the thick under coat that makes it diffic...

Everybody I know who has had to say goodbye to a dog has described it as one of the toughest decisions to make. When that decision is not in our hands, it might be easier on us... but harder on the dog. Sounds like Kylie had a good, long life.

Bad Week

It has been a rough week! We decided to put Kylie, my old Corgi down. She is the red in my profile and my best friend for almost 13 years! I like to think of her as the best I ever had! Annie the tri puppy that is now 2 has some mighty tall shoes to fill! I believe she can, but it will just take time!

Kerri, thanks for your pointers. My hubby has been taking her on fairly long walks in our development at least once a day, but often twice. Once we get my daughter back home and settled, we will go back to Petco for our obedience classes. The manager said whenever we could make it they would allow us to continue.. very nice people there. Morna really is a 'free spirit'... Lou had to add chicken wire to our picket fence twice (2nd time higher) b/c she was getting out of the yard if we just let her out by herself or with Bear. She is such a little character! Right now her thing is not eating her food unless she is coaxed (by her 'daddy') who adds some gourmet wet food to her dry food. With other dogs we have had, my theory was "when they get hungry they'll eat it", but the dry food just sits there in Morna's bowl so maybe he is right. She still makes me laugh and curls up under my chair when I'm at the computer... sometimes even licks my feet and ankles to her standard of clean, I guess. I had some minor surgery 2 wks ago and I'm not supposed to lift more than 10 lbs.for a while. She is just over that at about 12 lbs now. Spaying incision very well healed, microchip implanted...I don't want to loose her if she figures out another way to get through the fence. Glad to see you on Facebook.. nice to keep in touch that way too. Thanks again for the advice. I'll keep you posted about how she is doing.

Kerri, we really do know how you feel. We had our Caesar for 11 years. He developed Cushing's Disease. We finally had to put him down in October 2008. It was one of the hardest things we have ever had to do. Thank you for doing what was best for Kylie.

Hey everybody! I just called a few places to see who we could do a meet up with and I was only able to find one pet resort that would let us. It is in Castleton, IN. We would basically rent out an area for a couple of hours and let them run. I will get more details on everything tomorrow. The manager has to call me back for pricing and times and such. I was thinking 1-3 on a sat or sun? It would probably be around a month from now. Please let me know if you are interested and what would be best for you. I will do my best to get the most popular day and time.

I saw you mention DM on Michelle's page....I have a 5 yr old Male (Payton) who in the last year has had a sudden onset of epilepsy and has recently been diagonsed as having DLE (aka collie nose). We are also talking about him possibly being a corgi who will end up with DM due to the way he "recovers" from seizures (which it's been almost a year without those (knock on wood) and the fact the he tends to be sensitve in his back. They have pinpointed recently the gene that causes DM which is a huge break through beacuse if they can then figure out how to help our pups they are sure it will help humans with MS. here's a website about DM http://www.caninegeneticdiseases.net/DM/testDM.htm
Since they think you baby may have it, you can have the test done for free. Good luck and best wishes. jill

I am sure that you have done exhuastive searching online but the following link seemed to have some possible research type alternatives. Hope it helps. http://www.drnancysplace.com/myelopathy.html
