So it has been 5-6 days since I got Bosco (almost 9weeks old now) and sometimes I get a little skin itch on wherever he licks. It almost looks like a small round mosquito bite bump with red surrounding it. I wash the skin and after 20mins or so it stops itching and begins to fade away.

I have owned an indoor persian cat for 12 years before and I've never experienced such itching.

Does anyone know if there's a way to grow out of this type of allergy? I don't want to give away Bosco...

HELP! :(

Thanks for all the useful comforting replies. I'm starting to think it might be a coincident or if there's such thing as semi-allergy. Nonetheless, I'll get a check up to find out more about why!

I did have a friend who was extremely allergic to dog saliva. She could be around them but if the saliva touched her her skin would get red and itchy, so it MAY be a possibility, but she also had severe allergies to lots of things and skin issues, but I would still look into it. Hopefully it was just a freaky accident!

I get hives if my mom's cat licks me or touches my skin with his nose, but his fur/dander doesn't bother me at all.

If it looks more like a mosquito bite though that doesn't really sound like an allergy to me...

My guess would be he licked something and then licked you....hard to believe it's an allergy!

Hi Ada, no, you will not get a bump from Bosco licking you. Without having a look, it's hard to say if it's "hives" / allergic reaction.

Could it have been a coincidence?  Maybe he licked because you had something there (plant sap, mud, etc.) and that substance is what caused the reaction.  Then when you washed the irritant off the itching stopped.  Just a thought.

If fleas/mange bites, would the affected area disappear after 20minutes though?
Hmmm.. I'm going to check with an allergy specialist to find out all about my allergies first just in case~

I'm not sure....I haven't really heard of that happening before. It might not be the act of him licking you. Maybe he has fleas or mange or something like that. Some people are allergic to flea/mange bites and, as a result, can get red in certain areas. Have you been to the vet yet? Your vet can probably tell you what's wrong.

I just did a test again and let him lick me, but now I don't have any itch.

This is strange, would it be because of any dirty things he licked which got my skin allergic? For example, his peepee area?

It's kind of unusual that you get itchy when he licks you. Fleas maybe? Usually allergies from dogs comes from their dander, which comes from their fur I believe. My family, including me, has asthma so we usually just wash our doggy a lot, vacuum a lot, and when it gets kinda bad we have to take allergy medication.
