We checked everyone out in the westside and marina of LA. We only trust Dr Shane. Shane Veterinary on Lincoln in Marina Del Rey. She's amazing. Very responsive and friendly. And her staff is very very good with handling Joey who is a big baby when it comes to doctor visits.

Hi and welcome back to the westside! We live pretty close to you in Mar Vista.

Our vet is Dr. Gross at the Animal Medical Center of Southern California on Sepulveda, just north of Pico. We like her very much and she has a Sheltie herself, so is familiar with the herding doggies and meds they should not have. Additionally, the facility is a 24/7 place with emergency facilities. One hopes to never need it, but it is good to know too?

We have heard very good things about Dr. Rachel Jones at Marina Veterinary Center on Lincoln in Westchester. The are both holistic and traditional medicine.

My best suggestion would be to "interview" both or even more, until you find the doctor that you feel good about. But, especially find an emergency place and make a test drive to it, so you are prepared if ever there is a need???

Let us know when Bailey is feeling up to it, we'll plan a day for the Westchester doggie park, or let you know of upcoming Corgi events.

Wishing you many Corgi kisses!

Bailey and I just moved back to LA after living in San Diego for a few years. We are in the South Bay/Marina Del Rey/Santa Monica area, and were wondering which vet you take your corgis to? I heard Sepulveda Animal Hospital in Culver City is great, but which vets are your favorite? I only ask because we've heard those horror stories. We actually just took Bailey to Dr. Olds at Brentwood Animal Clinic last week to get x-rays done on her hips/legs (found out she has a partially torn acl), and he is apparently the best orthopedic specialist/surgeon in southern california specializing in small/dwarf breed animals. He is wonderful, but since he is a specialist, we were also looking for a vet where we can take her for her other concerns such as vaccinations and annual check ups. Any advice would be appreciated :) Thanks!

Are there any meetups in the area coming up? We would love to get together to play once Bailey's leg heals.

Thanks for all the advice! I don't know if I should be brandishing a weapon walking down the streets of Glendale lol. I walked with a hiking pole the day after the attack and felt a little ridiculous :) Baxter has calmed down (has gone on a ton of very positive playdates) and the neighbor has apologized but unfortunately continues to leave the door open so that the dog can see and bark at anything that moves outside. I suppose it will just be a work in progress and I keep telling myself that the only things I can really control are my dog and my reactions which everyone knows corgis are super perceptive to our feelings!! :) Thanks again everyone!!!

Oh, by the way, I always carry a big "walking stick/bat" with me whenever I am out with my Corgi. Better to be safe than sorry !!!!

Britt and baxter, unfortunately we all live in a pretty unforgiving world these days, so I would start by speaking to the owner of the dog who attacked you and guage how receptive they are to making sure their dog does not repeat the aggressive behavior (barring an accidental escape or release). At a bare minimum, I would definately report the incident to the local animal services division and make sure that the incident is documented in case the behavior continues and documentation is required to solve the situation. Bottom line, there is no reason in the world (besides an accidental release or escape) that you, or your dog, should have to put up with an aggressive dog or an uncaring/irresponsible owner. Your dog may need some time to calm down from the incident, where you and he/she can begin to work together to solve the barking problem. Good luck

Hey there. I am not much of a trainer as i am learning with my cogi mix, but i would talk to the owner next door. I had a similar incident happen to me with some guy and his boxer the other day. Now i carry a mild mace spray can. It wont hurt the other dogs, just a good way to keep my girl safe.

I am looking for help with training my corgi. I live in Glendale and my difficulty with him barking in response to the aggressive dog (not corgi) barking next door has escalated since the dog got loose from the house and attacked us two nights ago while we were going for a walk! Any advice for classes trainers etc in the area since I want to curb the anxiety he experiences with regards to this dangerous dog next door! Thanks for any help!
