We are avid campers, and have taken Oliver twice since getting him. He is addicted to A/C, so that was our biggest obstacle- he spent the first night whining at the car, then at the A/C ducts, wanting it on. Once he figured out he was going to hav...

Falicity, depending on how you have your dog trained on corrections, you might be able to tell even a young pup "No" if you catch them in the act. Not a prolonged "You are a bad dog" no, but a simple explanation. If you have already conditioned y...

Thanks for all the advice, it was all definitely informative and helpful! I am trying to crate him more during the day, even though it just breaks my heart to hear him whine and complain the whole time!! I guess since I am home all the time, I jus...

We were lucky with Jack. He did not like to poop inside, and only did so once on the first day we brought him home. When he was tiny, we would get him up early (maybe around 5:30), take him out, he would pee and sometimes poop. Then it was breakf...

My corgi is also not crate trained. We gave him a crate for a bed, he sleeps on the floor, has used it maybe 5x total. Crate training is not an essential. It takes a bit longer to get them started especially as loki had a stigma since day 1. He d...

Getting a schedule with food/pooping is the easiest way to protect your carpets, at the same time using the crate as a teaching tool. That way you will have pretty regular poo times throughout the day and can avoid a surprising accident indoors. F...

P.S. Remember, young dogs "earn" their freedom and they do not see this as punishing. In a natural state, the young ones would be forcibly kept in the den area most of the time by their elders. As your pup gets more reliable, you can expand the a...

Sam is 100% correct. Jack was not allowed in our living room (even with us) til he was about 6 months old, because he was not 100% reliable even if I was right there, so he could only play on hard surfaces, not carpet. We took him out constantly, ...

What food do you have him on? Oliver is on Purina puppy chow because that is what he was on when he got him, but he has the worst farts ever!! My dad has a black lab, and Oliver actually outdoes her! He thinks it's funny to sit on your lap and far...

Oliver is a little over 3 months, and has done great with all of his training in other areas. I know that he is still a puppy, so accidents are to be expected. However, as I said in another post somewhere... Now that I have figured out that he pok...

Oliver pokes my leg when he has to go potty (something I've finally figured out, and has made life SOOO much easier). He also will poke my lips when he's in bed to get my attention. I think it started when grandma kept asking for kisses, then woul...

Oliver is a genius because he too can name off his toys... and once he shreds them takes them to the trash can. I never have to worry about forgetting to feed him, because he will bring his food bowl to me. Now that the food is upstairs (I am preg...

Dying laughing right now!! Grew up raising sheep, and can SOOO imagine the first corgi/dorset cross. Little balls of fur with no legs, pointy snout, big ears... a definite improvement on the lamb if you ask me!! Dealing with the fur explosion here...

About Me:
I am a 22 year old homemaker, engaged and expecting our first child in August. We recently moved from a tiny, 240 sq. ft. apartment to a 2 story home, so my new passion has been trying to decorate. Since aquiring our corgi mix puppy, my hobby has become trying to learn about herding. Our family farm has 40+ 4H goats, and having a dog to bring them in for maintenance would be a great help. Though I don't have experience in herding per say, I have worked with dogs before (my dad trained hunting dogs, and I was always along for the ride), and also horses.

About My Corgi(s):
Oliver is a rambunctious, loving, energetic, extremely loyal corgi/terrier mix. He came into our lives sort of by accident, but has become an integral part of our family. Born the middle of march, he is just now finally growing into his feet, becoming less clumsy and more attentive. The older he gets, the more herding instinct I see in him. He has a keen sense, incredible intelligence, and extreme desire to learn. Within the first week he could sit, stay (to an extent), lay, and was learning to "leave it". He tries to herd birds, squirrels, and any dog who will put up with him, but still terrified of cars, and spends most of his time outside acting tough only to dart behind my legs as a passing vehicle nears.

Welcome Falicity and Oliver! Sidney was afraid of cars too, when he was younger. Now he loves going for rides in the car!
