Thank you for sharing our story with me. A lot of it sounded like what is going on with Finn. He's been doing well. He is stiff when he comes out of his crate after a long period of time but after a few steps he is fine. I'll see a very slight limp occasionally, usually when he's running but that's it. We're holding off on taking him to a specialist since just to talk with them and have some x-rays done it would be around $500. Our vet believes it is his hips. The specialist I spoke to on the phone said even if he has bad hips, one year old is very early for it to be causing him pain and if the pain and limping persists she thinks we should bring him in to see if there could be a tear or knee injury.

Many of the people I've talked to think he will need hip surgery at some point, either Femoral Head Ostectomy or hip replacement (no one has been able to tell me if replacement can even be done on a dwarf breed though) and that is my fear. Not only do I not think we could afford that but I can't imagine putting him through all that. Right now we're just watching him to see what happens. He's been taking supplements since he was 8 months old and we have pain meds to give if he seems to be in a great deal of pain. I've only given them to him twice so far.

I hope thins improve with your pup. Let me know if anything new comes up.

I was hoping you were going to say Leo was much better, but sounds like he is still having some issues! Wish it would just go away. I'm sure you do too! It is very hard to watch them go through it and nervewracking, but I am glad he is not in any pain and you are so good to have the therapy.

I am thinking this Santa thing is going to be very interesting. I have a fake Santa we get out at Christmas time so I may get him out for some warm up and see how that goes. Going to try it nonetheless. The weather has been awesome, today a little more like November though. I wish we could've gotten together with the Corgis but didn't work out with all the little quirks and such. I drove past the dog park the other day and it was packed! It reminded me of you, Leo and Sadie.

It sounds like you are keeping very busy with your husband gone right now. Do you know any of the Corgis who are coming in for spay/neuter?? Edward is doing well following his. I should've checked with you to see about it cuz they charge alot here in Rochester.
Hope the next 2 weeks go by fast for you and things can get back to being a little less hectic! Don't work too hard and please keep in touch! Melissa

Hi, how is Leo???? any progress with the therapy?? The Country Feed Store is having pictures with pets this Saturday Nov. 14th. We are going at 11:30 to try this although I'm not sure how Ed and Gem are going to react. If you need a good laugh you should come!!!! Edward got neutered last Wednesday so we have been limited with our usual activities once again!!! ugghhh, will be glad to get him healed up and get back to normal corgi chaos!!!!

HI, well we all know that Leo is a smartie and he passed with flying colors! Sorry to hear you had a migraine though!! I gave Alice a heads up on the physical therapy that you have been doing with Leo. I hope you don't mind, but I thought this sounded like a really good idea when you first told me about it and I had never heard of it before! Ed and Gem are going absolutely bezerk out in this snow, I on the otherhand not-so-much!! I do like it better than the rain though!!! going to stay in and bake some cookies today I think!!! So glad to hear from you! I hope you have a great weekend and say hello to Leo and Sadie for us!!!!

Hi Shelby,
I've been talking to Edward and Gemima and was told I should speak to you about Finnigan's hip problems since you are going through something similar. I have a discussion going on this but basically Finnigan was x-rayed at 8 months and found to have bad hips. Now at a year old he is limping. He's been limping on and off for about a month. It all started after a long day at the dog park and though the limp will go away it seems to come back easily. He's very stiff when he wakes up too.

Our vet gave us some anti-inflammatory to use sparingly and said though he's not overweight if he dropped 2 or 3 pounds it would be good and he needs to strengthen his back end to keep the hips in place. He also recommended seeing a specialist later on to discuss surgery options. He wasn't sure if hip replacement can be done on a dwarf breed.

Anyway, what is the situation with your dog? I was told you are doing physical therapy, anything you could suggest we try?

Hi Shelby, checking in on you guys to see what is new? Did Leo graduate from his training and how is his leg doing??? Did they like the snow the other day?? Mine were completely wild about it!!! Edward is still a little sensitive with his paw.... am supposed to be keeping him sort of quiet(ya right)so guess the weather can be rotten a little longer(not much more tho)I had them out for a nice walk this morning.....have a great weekend!!

Hi Shelby, the weather is certainly not cooperating at all this Fall or is it Winter???? We will be staying in this weekend and not doing the Doggie Park for sure!! Edward's cast came off on Thursday and he seems to be doing pretty good!!! I was nervous about letting him tear around in the yard much with Gem but somehow it seems almost impossible to stop it. I watched him closely though and he still seems to be sensitive with maybe a little stiffness, but not much limping and no whimpering!!! They did a number with the tape when they wrapped him though(not too happy with that)and that was tricky to get off!!! I still am not comfortable in letting him just go full blast just yet so probably better we can't meet up anyway!! Leo still can't get his favorite ball toy back then??? That's too bad, I hope that it gets better and just goes away!!! The restricted stuff is much harder than it seems it would be!!! Are you able to get him out for walks then or is that restricted too?? Well, not much else, Gem is doing good!! Have fun watching the Twins play on Sunday!!!!

YEP, LOOKS LIKE ANOTHER WEEK WILL BE A GOOD IDEA, SINCE THE SUN WON'T SHINE AND DRY THINGS UP A LITTLE!!! YOU'LL FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE ABOUT LEO, AND EDWARD WILL BE OUT OF HIS CAST, ALTHOUGH, I DON'T THINK WE'RE GONNA BE ABLE TO KEEP THIS THING ON FOR A WEEK, SINCE HE SEEMS TO THINK IT IS A TOY TO CHEW AND SWAT AT GEM WITH!!!! IT WILL BE A LONG WEEK!!!!!!

OH MAN.......... JUST GOT BACK FROM EDWARD'S DOCTOR, HE HURT HIS RIGHT FRONT PAW, WELL ACTUALLY, HIS RIGHT SECOND AND LAST TOE ON WEDNESDAY CHASING GEM AROUND A CORNER IN MY PARENTS GARDEN AND IT DIDN'T SEEM TO BE GETTING MUCH BETTER(HE WAS LIMPING ALL THE TIME AND WHINING WITH IT SOME OF THE TIME) ANYWAY THEY HAD TO TAKE X-RAYS AND IT SHOWED A LOT OF SOFT TISSUE SWELLING BUT THANKFULLY NO FRACTURES!!! SHE PUT HIM IN A SOFT WRAP ALL THE WAY UP HIS RIGHT LEG AND PUT HIM ON AN ANTI INFLAMMATORY(RIMADYL) FOR A WEEK!!! WE TOOK SOME PICS OF HIM IN HIS LEG WRAP THAT I WILL POST SOON!! IT LOOKS WORSE THAN IT IS I THINK!!! HAVE TO TRY TO KEEP HIM QUIET BUT HE ALREADY HAS LEARNED HOW TO CHASE GEM AROUND IN IT!!! IT WILL BE A LONG WEEK!!! WE WILL STILL BRING GEM ON SUNDAY IF IT IS A NICE DAY!!!! TALK TO YOU SOON!!!!
