Many of the people I've talked to think he will need hip surgery at some point, either Femoral Head Ostectomy or hip replacement (no one has been able to tell me if replacement can even be done on a dwarf breed though) and that is my fear. Not only do I not think we could afford that but I can't imagine putting him through all that. Right now we're just watching him to see what happens. He's been taking supplements since he was 8 months old and we have pain meds to give if he seems to be in a great deal of pain. I've only given them to him twice so far.
I hope thins improve with your pup. Let me know if anything new comes up.
I am thinking this Santa thing is going to be very interesting. I have a fake Santa we get out at Christmas time so I may get him out for some warm up and see how that goes. Going to try it nonetheless. The weather has been awesome, today a little more like November though. I wish we could've gotten together with the Corgis but didn't work out with all the little quirks and such. I drove past the dog park the other day and it was packed! It reminded me of you, Leo and Sadie.
It sounds like you are keeping very busy with your husband gone right now. Do you know any of the Corgis who are coming in for spay/neuter?? Edward is doing well following his. I should've checked with you to see about it cuz they charge alot here in Rochester.
Hope the next 2 weeks go by fast for you and things can get back to being a little less hectic! Don't work too hard and please keep in touch! Melissa
I've been talking to Edward and Gemima and was told I should speak to you about Finnigan's hip problems since you are going through something similar. I have a discussion going on this but basically Finnigan was x-rayed at 8 months and found to have bad hips. Now at a year old he is limping. He's been limping on and off for about a month. It all started after a long day at the dog park and though the limp will go away it seems to come back easily. He's very stiff when he wakes up too.
Our vet gave us some anti-inflammatory to use sparingly and said though he's not overweight if he dropped 2 or 3 pounds it would be good and he needs to strengthen his back end to keep the hips in place. He also recommended seeing a specialist later on to discuss surgery options. He wasn't sure if hip replacement can be done on a dwarf breed.
Anyway, what is the situation with your dog? I was told you are doing physical therapy, anything you could suggest we try?
